Tips for First Time Pet Owners!
Please do your research before you go out and get that dog or cat of your dreams! Make sure before you do anything that you can make that commitment to care for the pooch or cat before bringing the pet home. Go to the library and get a book about the breed of dog or cat that you want and find out if it is the right fit for your lifestyle. There is nothing more heartrending than realizing that the pet is incompatible with your household and you have to give him/her up.
Some dogs need lots or room to roam and attention. Also, be sure that they are good with children. There are some that are not and you should steer clear of if you have young children around. Children have a tendency to try the patience of a saint no less a dog. Thus, you have to get a dog that can tolerate whatever the kids can dish out.
Remember that your new pet is going through a huge transition period and is probably scared and will be out of sorts for a while. Expect whining, crying in the night, barking and also surprises on the floor so keep your eyes open! Over the next few posts, I'll provide you with a few anecdotes of my own regarding this topic! Feel free to add your two cents in!
